Catuaba (Erythroxylum catuaba)

Catuaba (Erythroxylum catuaba) is a vigorous-growing, small tree that produces yellow and orange flowers and small, dark yellow, oval-shaped, inedible fruit.

It grows in the northern part of Brazil in the Amazon rainforest. The catuaba tree belongs to the family Erythroxylaceae, whose principal genus, Erythroxylum, contains several species that are sources of cocaine. Catuaba, however, contains none of the active cocaine alkaloids.
Catuaba has a long history of use in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac. The Tupi Indians in Brazil first discovered the aphrodisiac qualities of the plant and over the last few centuries they have composed many songs praising its wonders and abilities.
An infusion of the bark is used in traditional Brazilian medicine as an aphrodisiac and central nervous system stimulant. In catuaba, a group of three alkaloids dubbed catuabine A, B and C are believed to enhance sexual function by stimulating the nervous system. A bark decoction is commonly used for sexual impotency, agitation, nervousness, nerve pain and weakness, poor memory or forgetfulness, and sexual weakness.
Effets
Catuaba is an aphrodisiac. It stimulates sexual drive and increases libido in both men and women. It stimulates blood flow to the genitals, it can strengthen and prolong an erection, it enhances sexual excitement and gives more powerful orgasms.
A little while after ingestion, most people will feel a tingling sensation along the spine and a sensual feeling all over the body. The skin and genitals become more sensitive. It is very suitable for giving your love life a special impulse.
In Brazil catuaba is also used to tone, balance, and calm the central nervous system.
Usage
Generally, in Brazil, a standard infusion (bark tea) and an alcohol tincture are employed. Recommended usage is reported to be 1-3 cups of an infusion daily or 2-3 ml of a standard alcohol tincture twice daily.
Boil 1-2 tablespoons in half a liter of water for 15 minutes to get 2 cups of tea. The effects will occur in about half an hour.
For a stronger effect, mix 30 grams of catuaba with half a liter of liquor in a glass bottle. Leave it for 2 weeks, shaking it every day. A few little nips should do the job.

“I just made a tea from catuaba and mate. Along with a few cups of this mixture i got very excited (and i'm not talking about my genitals yet). Since my girlfriend left me a few weeks ago, i did not feel such uprising fortune. Perhaps this is an aphridisiak, but you need to feel good to have sex, right?! I need to get out now. :-D”

“En infusion, c'est franchement agréable, mais niveau effet, comme on s'y attend, ben rien du tout, faut pas se faire d'illusion. Peut-être en grose dose… Je testerai sur la prochaine fille qui viendra prendre un thé avec moi, on verra bien ^^”
